On Sunday night at 11:23pm, the HFD and Town of Wappinger EMS were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9, in the area of the entrance to BJ’s Wholesale Club. Updates from Dutchess 911 indicated that the motorist was possibly unresponsive and trapped in the vehicle. Assistant Chief 45-2 arrived on scene within 2 minutes and confirmed entrapment. Chief 45-1 and District Captain 45-7 arrived shortly thereafter. Rescue 45-55 and Engine 45-11 arrived on scene as Town of Wappinger EMS was treating the patient. The HFD stabilized the vehicle and used the Jaws of Life to quickly extricate the driver. While extricating the driver, a dog was removed from the vehicle and evaluated. The uninjured dog was turned over to PD. The driver was removed from the vehicle without incident and transported to a local hospital.

Utility Vehicles 45-62 and 45-68 were used to close Route 9 northbound lanes while members worked in the roadway.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lane before veering off the roadway and striking a tree.
