On Monday, July 17 at 12:35pm, the HFD was dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident in the area of 59 New Hamburg Road. The HFD responded with Heavy Rescue 45-55, Engine-Tanker 45-31, and Utility 45-62. Responding units were advised by Dutchess County 911 that the driver was possibly unresponsive, and a utility pole was snapped with low hanging wires. Upon arrival, members determined that the sole occupant of the vehicle was heavily entrapped in the vehicle and seriously injured. The Incident Commander requested New Hamburg FD to the scene with additional rescue tools and personnel. Due to the extent of injuries, a medevac helicopter was requested and HFD personnel established a Landing Zone at the fire station. The victim was, subsequently, extricated from the vehicle, packaged and while en route to the Landing Zone, the medevac helicopter aborted the mission due to weather. The victim was then transported by ground via Town of Wappinger (Empress) EMS with an HFD member on board. Units were placed back in service at 2:13pm.
