June 6, 2022

On Sunday, June 5, 2022, at 6:12am, Hughsonville Fire Department and New Hackensack 52-12(Engine) were dispatched to 30 Woodland Court for smoke in the basement. Chief of Department Justin Jerrick and 1st Assistant Chief Paul Rogers arrived on scene at the same time to find a light smoke condition showing from the front of the residence. During the initial size up and 360, a Second Alarm was requested by Chief Jerrick, which adds additional resources to the incident.

The crew from 45-11(Engine) stretched the first hose line into the structure through the front door and proceeded to go down the basement stairs. While descending the basement stairs a firefighter on the hose line experienced a malfunction with his SCBA regulator. The Officer of the hose line crew transmitted a “Mayday” for the firefighter experiencing the SCBA Regulator malfunction. The firefighter was assisted by his crew and additional crews near him out of the structure through the rear sliding glass door. The firefighter was then evaluated by EMS personal on scene and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The firefighter has since been treated and released.

Firefighters then stretched an additional hose line to the rear of the structure and entered the basement to extinguish the fire. Additional firefighters from mutual aid departments assisted on scene with fire suppression, overhaul, and ventilation. Hughsonville Fire Department responded to the scene with 45-11(Engine), 45-31(Tanker), 45-32(Tanker), 45-46(Ladder), and 45-55(Heavy Rescue). The fire was brought under control in approximately 45 minutes of the initial dispatch. The bulk of the fire was held to the basement of the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division. Hughsonville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the following mutual aid departments New Hackensack (52-12), Village of Fishkill (42-13), Rombout (62-11), New Hamburg (53-52), East Fishkill (39-41 2nd F.A.S.T), East Fishkill (39-33), Glenham (43-31), Chelsea (35-35), Town of Wappinger Ambulance, Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division, Dutchess County Deputy Fire Coordinator, and Town of Wappinger Building Department.

Thank you to all the members of the Hughsonville Fire Department and our mutual aid firefighters that assisted on the scene of the structure fire. Thank you to the Village of Wappingers for providing district coverage while our crews operated on scene.
